As a special service to residents, the City of Rehoboth Beach provides an annual spring bulk pickup service, during which time residential property owners may discard furniture, certain appliances, e-waste, and other large, bulky items free of charge. This service is provided over a two-week period in late April/early May.
Residents may request a special bulk pickup during other times of the year for a minimum fee of $75 by calling 302-227-6181, ext. 123. Please do not set out household items for pick up unless for the Spring Bulk Pickup or if you’ve scheduled a special pickup with the city or a private provider.
In 2025, Spring Bulk Pickup is scheduled for April 28-May 2 on the southside of town (for bulk pickup, this includes the Schoolvue area and Scarborough Avenue Ext.) and May 5-9 on the northside. City crews will pick up items daily throughout the work week in the designated areas.

Please follow these instructions for discarding bulk waste:
- Place materials at the curb no more than 24 hours before pickup is scheduled.
- Place materials in front of your property line and on the same side of the street.
- Keep the bulk items pile clear of other objects, including cars.
- Do not block sidewalks or traffic lanes.
The city accepts the following items in its Spring Bulk Pickup:
- Appliances*
- e-waste (e.g., televisions and computer monitors)
- Universal waste (household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs less than 4 feet, and cell phones)*
- Furniture/mattresses
- Tires (maximum of 5; no rims)
- Junk
- Lumber, pipes, and trimmings no more than 4 inches in diameter and 5 feet in length.
*Place these items to the side of your pile of other bulk items. Refrigerant must be recovered from appliances BEFORE they can be picked up. Owners should contact a professional, such as an employee of an appliance repair shop, to remove refrigerant prior to disposal.
The city will not accept the following items, and other means of disposal should be used:
- Commercial waste
- Dirt, rocks, and bricks
- Lawn/tree/shrub trimmings
- Glass panes (will be accepted if broken into pieces, placed in a hard plastic container or cardboard box, and labeled “glass”)
- Concrete
- Vehicle batteries
- Household garbage
- Hot ashes
- Heavy materials (e.g., auto bodies, engines, etc.)
- Hazardous waste (e.g., paint, oil, chemicals, etc.).
