Bringing Pets to the Beach and Boardwalk

Leashed dogs are permitted on the beach and boardwalk from October 1-April 30 only.

Dogs and other animals are not permitted on the city’s boardwalk or beach at any time from May 1-September 30.

Dogs may not run at large and generally are required by state code to be secured by a leash when outside of private property. All city regulations related to animals are in the city’s code.

Working Animals

Dogs and other animals performing an act or function on behalf of law enforcement agencies or branches of the armed forces are exempt from this prohibition as are seeing-eye dogs being handled by individuals who are legally blind and service dogs who are assisting individuals with handicaps. This exemption does not include emotional support animals.
